Why was claude-fable-5 suspended?

Anthropic suspended access to claude-fable-5 on June 12, 2026, reportedly after a US Commerce Department export-control directive — described in reporting as a letter from Secretary Howard Lutnick to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. The specifics are attributed to news outlets and remain partly unconfirmed; FableWatch is not affiliated with Anthropic and does not have inside information.

What messages you’ll receive

If you opt in, FableWatch sends you: (1) a one-time verification code to confirm the mobile number you provide, and (2) a service alert (text and/or automated phone call) for an availability event on the AI models FableWatch monitors — for example, when a new state-of-the-art model launches or a watched model comes back online. These are the only messages this program sends.

How to opt in

FableWatch only sends SMS or automated calls to a paid subscriber who has (1) affirmatively enabled the SMS and/or Voice channel from their account dashboard after purchase, agreeing to the consent language below, and (2) confirmed ownership of the number by entering a one-time code we text them. We do not send service alerts to a number until both steps are complete. Consent is not a condition of purchase — you can buy a plan and never enable texts or calls.
